Yume (ゆめ) is a minor character in the Senran Kagura series. She makes her debut in Senran Kagura: Shinovi Master -Tokyo Yōma-hen-. She is the maternal grandmother of Yumi and Fubuki, and the former lover of Kurokage.
Appearance[]
Physically, Yume is nearly identical to her granddaughter, sporting the same colored hair and eyes. Her hair is longer and styled in a slightly different way. Her shinobi outfit consisted of a sleeveless black kimono.
Personality[]
Yumi was shown to be a very caring and compassionate woman. She was gentle by nature and more timid than her granddaughter, but she still had a strong sense of right and wrong.
She loved Kurokage deeply and supported him as much as she could, but his growing extremist views towards Evil Shinobi isolated the two and she didn't hesitate to confront him over it. She was nonetheless heartbroken when he abandoned her after he was ostracized from the shinobi world and held out hope that he would return to her.
Background[]
Though how they met is unclear, it's implied Yume first encountered Kurokage and Hanzō during either the late 1940s or early 1950s. Yume and Kurokage fell in love, dating in secret for a time before Hanzo coaxed it out of her. Though Kurokage was annoyed at him, Hanzo ultimately supported their relationship, saying "You need to have your fun and drinks while you can."
At some point, Kurokage told Yume about his past and how his parents were killed by Evil Shinobi. Yume sympathized with him, though she expressed worry over his mental state and his skewed vision of justice. Nevertheless, she continued to love and support him.
During this time period, Good Shinobi and Evil Shinobi were at constant strife with each other. The former faction was seeing overwhelming causalities and injuries, a reality that greatly angered and disturbed Kurokage. Despite Yume and Hanzo's best efforts to calm him, Kurokage horrified them by declaring that he would kill all Evil Shinobi and bring justice to the world.
Kurokage's rampant slaughter of Evil Shinobi would ultimately lead him to be exiled, becoming a Renegade and going into hiding. At this time, Yume was pregnant with Kurokage's children and was greatly distressed when he left.
Yume would go on to birth Kurokage's children, a son and a daughter. Hanzo would help Yume raise them in small ways during Kurokage's absence. Yume always held out hope that Kurokage was alive and would come back to her, though he never did.
When Yume was much older, she often told Yumi about Kurokage and his accomplishments. Yumi noted how her grandmother always looked proud, yet sad, when speaking about him.
Trivia[]
- It's currently unknown if Yume is still alive, or if she was ever made aware of Kurokage's death.
- It's also unknown if she knows about Fubuki, or whether or not she knew Jasmine.
- It's implied that Yume was blacklisted from the Shinobi world due to her relations with Kurokage. Consequently, her children were often treated poorly by other shinobi and given the worst missions.
- Yume's name (ゆめ) can translate to 'Dream'
