Senran Kagura (閃乱カグラ) is a video game series developed by Tamsoft, produced by Marvelous, and art done by Nan Yaegashi. It was first released on September 22, 2011 for Nintendo 3DS but then later moved to PlayStation for the franchise's sub-series. The franchise revolves around groups of female shinobi, and has received several manga and anime adaptations.

Nintendo Titles[]

Senran Kagura: Portrait of Girls[]

Also known as Senran Kagura: Skirting Shadows in North America. It is the first title of the Senran Kagura series, released on September 22nd, 2011 for the Nintendo 3DS. It is also collected in North America as part of Senran Kagura Burst.

The game tells the story of five girls aiming to become top shinobi at Hanzō National Academy and their fierce battles along the way. Showing the girls' breasts in 3D was a selling point, as was the exhilarating, polished, side-scrolling action that initially earned the series so many fans. An anime based on the game aired in January 2013 titled Senran Kagura: Ninja Flash.

Senran Kagura: Crimson Girls[]

The second title in the Senran Kagura series, released on August 30th, 2012 for Nintendo 3DS. It is also collected in North America as part of Senran Kagura Burst.

Crimson Girls presents a different side of the story from the first game by featuring the shinobi of Hebijo Clandestine Girls' Academy, which players battled against in the previous title. Along with tweaked gameplay mechanics, the games includes both the original story and the expansion, which amounts to nearly twice the content.

Senran Kagura 2: Deep Crimson[]

The fourth title in the Senran Kagura series, released on August 7th, 2014 for the Nintendo 3DS. This game continues the storyline from Crimson Girls and features two new characters named Kagura and Naraku, The game also allows the player to control two characters at once.

Shinobi Refle: Senran Kagura[]

Shinobi Refle is a spin-off title featuring Asuka, Yumi, Murasaki, Ryōna, and Yomi. Gameplay is a mix of a visual novel and the dressing room "intimacy mode" feature. The player is called to a classroom after school by the selected character and through massaging the girl's hand starts a dream sequence where they have a different personality. The ending of the story depends on what body parts the player touched during intimacy mode. Asuka comes with the base game while the others are offered as DLC. A physical edition with all DLC was made available later.

Peach Ball: Senran Kagura[]

Peach Ball is a spin-off pinball game featuring the same characters from Shinobi Refle. The girls are transformed into animal girls by one of Haruka's potions she left out at her job as an arcade attendant. The effects can be reversed by a pinball machine which the player has control over. Haruka uses an antidote on the selected character and the others are brought back for the player to return to normal. There are two pinball tables with customizable themes.

PlayStation Titles[]

Senran Kagura: Shinovi Versus[]

The third title in the series, released on February 28th, 2013 for the PlayStation Vita. The game adds two new groups and ten new characters to the mix as the inter-school Shinobi Battle Royale competition unfolds.

The side-scrolling gameplay of the previous titles is replaced by full 3D third-person action in this game. Shinovi Versus also features four-person battles ad different storylines for every character.

Senran Kagura: Bon Appétit![]

The series' first spin-off title. It was released on March 20th, 2014 as a digital download-only game for PlayStation Vita. This surprising rhythm game features the series' tried-and-true characters taking part in a cooking contest.

The base game contains Hanzō Academy and Homura's Crimson Squad while the girls of Gessen and Hebijo Academies are DLC content. The game was released physically with all schools included as Senran Kagura Bon Appétit Full Course.

Senran Kagura: Estival Versus[]

The fifth tile in the Senran Kagura series, released on March 26th, 2015 for the PlayStation 4. The story follows up after Shinovi Versus and introduces five new characters as the cast is transported to a different world to participate in the Kagura Millennium Festival.

The gameplay is an enhanced version of Shinovi Versus, adding several new mechanics such as Fusion Aerial Raves, Wall Running, Wake-Up Attacks and Wake-Up Evasion.

Senran Kagura: Peach Beach Splash[]

The sixth title in the Senran Kagura series, released on released on March 16, 2017. The story follows up after Estival Versus, but unlike its predecessors it is a third person shooter. The girls are transported yet again from their daily lives to participate in the Peach Beach Splash tournament. The game also adds several characters from the mobile game Senran Kagura: New Wave.

Senran Kagura: Burst Re:Newal[]

A remake of the title Senran Kagura Burst utilizing the same gameplay as the Estival Versus games. DLC missions featuring Yumi and Miyabi are available.

Mobile Titles[]

Senran Kagura: New Wave[]

A card battle game for smartphones whose distribution began on November 28th, 2012. It was first distributed by GREE and then later by Mobage. Seventy-two girls from eleven different factions vie for the title of strongest shinobi.

The game received a big update in February 2014, called Senran Kagura: New Wave -G Burst-. This updated version new characters drawn by illustrator Nan Yaegashi.

Shinobi Master Senran Kagura: New Link[]

A mobile turn-based battle game where a players control a team of 5 shinobis and battle each other while battling NPC enemies as well. The game is still being updated with new content, even to this day.

An alternate telling of the first game, from the point of view of the Hebijo students.

It also has three volumes in it as well.
